Hi all! I am starting to look into what my next drum purchase will be after my wedding next month, and I am almost set on finding a good white drumset, but I dont think that Mapex offers any white drums at this time. Am I wrong on that? I have a couple of different ideas on what I should get, and no matter what the color, I am really trying to find out what is the very best quality kit that I can get for the best price. It does not have to be the very top of the line kit, just something that sounds great, and is made well. After all of the years playing the top of the line, most expensive drums, I have really come to the conclusion that there are plenty of mid line drums out there now that come very close to sound and quality as the more expensive models, and some maybe better in ways. Anyways, what are your opinions on this, and what advice would you give me on what the best bang for the buck would be these days? Thanks as always, and take care!! Dave

 Hey drummindave, Congrats on the joining.

It's got to be the best thing that's ever happened to me. That's when my life really started. Going through it together is such a cool thing.

Back on subject......are you looking for solid white, or will the white marine pearls, silks and sparkles be part of what you're looking for?

Maple/Cherry BP 12 x 7
Attack & Evans G-Plus Heads

Thank you very much! I am looking forward to it. I am probably leaning towards more of a solid color or possibly a sparkle, which is nice also. I appreciate any info.

Platinum Sparkle in the Pro-M line is the lightest color you can get :) Next would be a Saturn kit in Antique Ivory. That's white alright, just a few shades creamier, and of course there's Lasor Ivory which isn't as bright as the P.S. but has better effects with the sparkles IMO.

Last month they had a deal on "Five star drum kits". This is essentially a pro-m maple shell, with m-birch hardware. These only come in 2 different colors black and Bermuda Sparkle, and they are only found at authorized Mapex dealer five star drum shops. The cost of the shell pack is $599.00 THIS IS THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK ON A GREAT SOUNDING, WELL MADE ALL MAPLE KIT HANDS DOWN... The minute I found out about this deal thanks to other members of the forum, I jumped on one immediately (bermuda sparkle), and this was one of the best purchases I have ever made. These kits are still around, check the links below.

Hi drummindave.

Admin's got it nailed with your Mapex white choices. There's also the Vanilla Cream Pearl wrap on the ProM's to consider. Not a true white, but close to the marine pearls and different enough so not everyone and their brother has the finish.

If you're looking at other drum manufacturers (heaven forbid), then TAMA has the White Silk on their Performers and a solid white (Piano White?) on their Bubingas and Starclassic Maples.

Let us know what you decide to do. (We're nosy)

Hey kontroll, those are some nice live pics! I would like to know how much the sound of your Pro-M improved when you changed the resonant heads to Aquarian and which batter heads are you using? I am still using the stock reso's and Aquarian Response 2's on the batter. I ask because the sound I have still isn't quite what I want it to be, I'll probably end up switching to coated heads, I just like them better.

Hi Kevo.

I was the same way with the Aquarian sound on my ProM's when I did batter side replacements using Response 2's and going with their Classic Clears on the reso - almost, but not quite there. The Super 2's the batter side is what gave me exactly what I was looking for. When I put those babies on, my heart said "this is what drums are supposed to sound like." (Really - it said that)

I was so impressed that I re-headed my TAMA Swingstars with the Super 2 Coated's (to help dampen the overtones the Phillipine Mahogany has) and was equally impressed there.

I recommend trying that combo on your smallest drum and see what you think.
